Imlil offers a very good starting point for many walks and strolls amongst the High Atlas, into its many valleys and among many Berber villages.
The views are very impressive and on a “giant” scale. No matter your level of fitness, Imlil and the surrounding area can be accessible to all levels of walker, the area being ideal both for the experienced and for less experienced walkers. All will be rewarded by the delights enjoyed from walking in such a beautiful setting.

The hike described here is just for a 1 day hike. If you wish to hike for 2, 3 or more days then a tailor made itinerery with all inclusions that you want can be readily made for you.

TYPICAL WHOLE DAY HIKE ITINERARY IN IMLIL AREA:
08:30: Depart from Marrakech. Your private transport and driver collects you from your accommodation for a drive towards the High Atlas. Enjoy crossing the Marrakech Plain with views of olive groves, small villages, and looming, rugged mountain summits and valleys.
10:00: Arrive in Imlil and meet your English-speaking (other languages available; just request at time of booking), certificated mountain Guide. After initial introductions, a short briefing is taken before beginning your hike. This gives the opportunity to finalise exactly what it is that you are looking to experience on your hike.
10:15: Start hiking towards Armed Village. You will follow peaceful mountain paths, passing by terraced fields, walnut orchards, and small Berber villagess. Your guide will provide insights into local traditions, the Amazigh (Berber) culture, and the area’s unique way of life, living off the land. Plenty opportunities to take photographs (sensitively), and to ask questions of your Guide.
11:00: Arrive at Armed Waterfall. Enjoy a relaxing stop at the Armed Waterfall. It’s a charming area and offers mightily impressive valley and mountain views, ideal for taking photos.
11:30: Continue hiking to Armed Village itself. Walk slightly uphill toward Armed; the village is the highest year-round inhabited village in North Africa. Along the way, continue to take in panoramic views of the Azzaden Valley, the Imlil Valley, and, hopefully, the Mount Toubkal peaks.
12:30: Lunch in a Local Berber Family Home. Arrive at a traditional Berber house and enjoy a freshly prepared homemade lunch. Typical this will include a tagine, fresh salad, bread, seasonal fruits, and, of course, Moroccan mint tea. This is also a great opportunity to learn about daily life in the mountains with your Guide and Berber hosts.
14:00: Walk Back to Imlil. It is now an easy downhill walk back toward Imlil, the descent being gentle. Continue to enjoy the all enveloping, peaceful mountain scenery, often accompanied by the calming sound of running streams along the way.
15:30: Arrive back in Imlil, enjoy a short rest.
16.00: Depart with your private transport and head for Marrakech.
17:30: Arrive in Marrakech and be returned to your accommodation.
